Introduced in the mid 1990's with the first Lockit box the Clockit family has become an established system for mission critical mobile time code and synchronisation tasks and was continuisly refined. Based around a very accurate, temperature compensated crystal oscillator (TCVCXO) the system can be calibrated in the field to a reference deviation of less than .2ppm which corresponds to a drift of much less than 1 frame in over 24hrs between any given number of autonomously running units. This allows for a synchronity as found in studio situations without hard-wired equipment or relying on problematic RF transmission.
Additionally to all SMPTE TC modes, including pull up/down and drop rates, Clockit units fully support the Aaton ASCII protocol.
Knowing about the requirements in the field Sound Devices opted for integration of the Clockit technology on designing their 7series recorders. As a result these highly acclaimed, digital multi trackers are fully compatible with other Clockit products and offer the same accuracy bypassing the necessity of an external synchronizer.
